Still Life with Beer Mug and Fruit

Still Life with Jug and Pears (partly also named as "Still Life with Beer Mug and Fruit ") is a painting by an unknown artist of the 19th century, which was attributed to decades of the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh ( 1853-1890). It is dated 1881 and is thus one originally to the early works of Van Gogh.

The painting measures 44.5 × 57.5 cm and is painted with oil colors on canvas. It is owned by the Von der Heydt - Museum in Wuppertal. It originally comes from the collection of the banker Eduard von der Heydt and was given after the Second World War the city.

Description

The picture shows a still life with a jug of beer to the fruit is grouped. The painter used for his picture, somber colors. Black and brown hues determine the overall picture. Remarkable are the blurred contours that you can see well with the pears.

The authenticity of the painting

The authenticity of the painting and another image of van Gogh in 1987 was questioned at an exhibition.

In May 2008, the museum director Gerhard Finckh was left of this and the painting Still Life with Coffee Pot and Flowers for review to the experts at the Research Institute of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on the initiative. The results of this study were presented in October 2010 the press. Thus, in the evaluation, inter alia x-ray studies were pigment and causes the painting technique and the materials were studied.
