Stina Wirsén

Stina Wirsén (* 1968 in Stockholm) is a Swedish artist and illustrator.

She received her training at the School of Art Konstfack in Stockholm, leaving class of 1992. Since 1997 she has been chief illustrator at the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter. For the readers of Dagens Nyheter she was known for her numerous fashion illustrations, but also by cartoons and travelogues. Stina Wirsén drew attention by her children book illustrations up.

Her style is minimal, but very apt. With a few brush or pen strokes, she manages to capture the essence. In a radio interview, she responded to the question of how quickly they produce for a drawing: ". , It goes very quickly, but many drawings end up in the trash "

Today Stina Wirsén is one of the most popular illustrators in Sweden with orders for Ikea, Telia and many national and international journals and magazines. Over the years she has received many prestigious awards and prizes, including:

  • Gold and silver medals of The Society of Newspaper Design, 1997-2001
  • Award from the Society of Illustrators Scandinavian
  • Elsa Beskow Plaque for best children's book illustration, 2000
