Stone Johnson

Stone Johnson (Stone Edward Johnson, born April 26, 1940 in Dallas, † September 8, 1963 in Wichita, Kansas) was an American sprinter and American football player.

In 1960 he submitted to the U.S. elimination fights for the Olympic Games in Rome in the semifinals of the 200-meter run with 20.5 s world record, and was in the final second. At the Olympics he was fifth on 200 m and was in the 4 x 100 - meter relay for the U.S. team that was disqualified in the final.

In 1963, he was taken as a running back from the Kansas City Chiefs under contract. In a test match, he suffered a broken neck, the consequences of which he died ten days later. Although he had never denied a regular game in the National Football League, his jersey number 33 was no longer awarded.
