STONITH

STONITH stands for " Shoot The Other Node In The Head " (English for "Shoot the other node in the head") or " Shoot The Offending Node In The Head " ( English for " shooting the failed node in the head " ), sometimes also STOMITH "Shoot the Other Member / machine in The Head " ( english for " shooting the other member / other machine in the head") and is a technique for delimiting a node (english nodes ) within a computer cluster ( server farm ).

If the employment of a node ( individual computer) taken in a computer cluster due to an error from another node, the faulty node must be prevented from continuing work. The simple idea behind STONITH is to prevent the faulty node by automatically interrupting the power supply or the deliberate triggering a kernel panic on the further work.

Two nodes that perform exactly the same operation in the same cluster of computers, can lead to disastrous results - for example, the simultaneous storing data on a common data store ( shared storage ). STONITH enables an effective, albeit drastic safeguard against this problem.
