Störsperrwerk

The sturgeon ( [ ʃtøɐ ], regional [ Stø ː ɛ ] Latinized, Sturia ) is influenced by tides in the lower reaches right tributary of the Elbe in Schleswig -Holstein. From the river their type is a march waters.

Course

The interference originates about 15 km south-east of Neumünster in Willingrade in Segeberg. Shortly after its headwaters it is dammed for today listed paper mill.

The first trench, which bears the name " sturgeon "

The barrage of paper mill

Then it crosses the outskirts of Neumünster, the southern district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde and the Steinburg district and flows here about 4 km north- west of Gluckstadt into the Elbe. In the community Heiligenstedten it reaches the marsh level; already from Itzehoe its course begins to meander. The river has a length of about 87 km and an average water flow of 21.7 m³ / s at the mouth of the Lower Elbe.

From Itzehoe ( rkm 53) to the mouth of the Sturgeon for professional shipping is navigable, but where this is becoming less important. The recreational boating on the other hand uses the sturgeon still above Itzehoe. The Störsperrwerk 1975 two kilometers above the mouth built to protect the lowlands along the sturgeon from the effects of storm surges. The building has two 22 m wide shipping with openings Stemmtorverschlüssen.

Tides affect the water status of sturgeon on more than half its length from its mouth to above Kellinghusenstraße ( river kilometer 32); it is the only tributary of the Elbe, where the Tidebewegung swings freely and the tidal limit is not determined by a transverse structure. The mean tidal range is about 2.75 meters at Störsperrwerk. The tideunbeeinflusste space Kellinghusenstraße to the source has a catchment area of 1,160 km ². The entire catchment area covers 1781 km ².

Inflows

Inflows are in the headwaters of the Schwale ( at river kilometer 8) Aalbek ( river kilometer 12), Bünzau ( river kilometer 18), Brokstedter Au, Mühlenbek, Bramau ( river kilometer 34.8 ), in the middle reaches of the Hörnerau ( river kilometer 35), Mühlenbarbeker Au, Rantzau ( river mile 42.9 ), Moor bettors Lübsche bettors Bekau ( river kilometer 60) and in the lower reaches Large field bettors (r ), Wilsterau (r, river kilometer 63.5 ), Kamp ride bettors (r ), Monastery bettors ( l), wholesale Kampen bettors (r ), Altenfelder bettors (r ), Large bettors ( l), New Brooker bettors ( l), Krempau (l, river kilometer 75.8 ) and the bettors at Wewelsfleth (r). In addition, the width Burger channel ( river kilometer 49.5 ) is associated with sturgeon.

Störquerungen

Downstream of the city Itzehoe there are few Störquerungen: Save the Störbrücke the national road 5 Wilster and Krempermarsch are only identified by the bascule bridge in Heiligenstedten that Störfähre Else in Beidenfleth and running on the Störsperrwerk federal highway 431 connected to each other above the Störmündung.

Former castles

Various lowland castles were on the sturgeon. The oldest are the castle Esesfeld at Heiligenstedten and Wittorfer castle in Neumünster at the confluence of Schwale, both of which date from the 9th century. In the following centuries the castle Itzehoe were built in the former interference loop in Itzehoe and the width of the present castle castle castle width. Also along the tributaries of the sturgeon castles were built, such as dating from the 9th century Kaaksburg at the confluence of Mühlenau in the Bekau, the castle Bori built below the confluence of the Höllenau in the Bünzau or the end of the 13th century stone castle on the Kremperau.

Legal classification

The sturgeon ( St) is a 50.2 km long federal waterway the responsibility of the Water and Shipping Authority of Hamburg BWaStr - km 0.00 ( Rensing tide gauge ) to km 51.19 ( confluence with the Elbe at km 678.51 ).

1882-1898 the sturgeon below Itzehoe was expanded, punctures, Kurvenabflachungen and bank revetments were prepared. Further measures were taken 1950 until 1954.

As inland waterway of the Federal is to Itzehoe ( 23.70 km ) unclassified; of Itzehoe to its mouth it is an inland waterway in Class III. It is one of the inland waterways, on which the Maritime Traffic Regulations applies.

The sturgeon is associated with the Elbe river basin according to § 1b Paragraph 1 No. 6 WHG.

Construction

Unrealized construction

For the construction of the Eider Canal is still under investigation in 1774 a possible pipeline route from Kiel to the lower Elbe river that ran through the sturgeon. For this, the glacial trough should be used from Obereider, Both Kamper, Bordesholmer and Einfelder lake. After the watershed at Einfelder See the Lower Elbe over the two rivers Schwale and sturgeon would have been achieved.

Planned construction

In the area of Kellinghusenstraße structural measures are planned in order to prevent flooding. For the downtown area Itzehoe the reopening of the filled- interference loop is discussed.

Reintroduction of the sturgeon

Since 2009, an attempt is made to settle the nearly extinct European sturgeon again. A memorial stone in Itzehoer city harbor is reminiscent of the first-time exposure of 53 specimens within the Störschipperfestes.
