Stormont County

Stormont County is a historic district of the Canadian province of Ontario. The district was founded in 1792 and later went on to the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry United Counties.

After initial colonization from 1785 the County was founded in 1792 on an area of ​​1.006 km ² in southeastern Ontario on the St. Lawrence River. Some of the first settlers were loyal to the British Crown refugees before the American Revolutionary War. About a third of the pioneers came from the Scottish Highlands ( see also Highland Clearances ), one third were German, and the rest were English, Irish and Scots from the lowlands. 1800 Russell County was split off.
