History

Strašice was probably settled between the 8th and 9th centuries. The first written mention of the town and the castle Strašice took place in 1349 as a possession of the sons of the late Peter I. von Rosenberg. In the power struggle with the powerful South Bohemian Rosenberg family King Charles I in 1352 had burnt down the earlier kingship Strašice. In Rosenberger land register of 1379, the town was in the parts Dolejší Strašice or Velky Strašice with a mill, a forge, four meat shops and ten Huben field and meadow land, Horejsi Strašice or Maly Strašice with five Huben and the ironworks with two Huben country distinguished. Since the end of the 14th century, the lords of Rosenberg leased the ironworks. During the Hussite Wars, the rebels conquered the castle in 1424. Ulrich II von Rosenberg sold in 1431 and the reigns Strašice Zbiroh on King Sigismund. From 1440 belonged Strašice Count Kolowrat, the end of the 1470s was followed by the Lords of Sternberg and then the Lords of Lobkowicz as the owner. The latter led the ironworks to economic prosperity, which also affected the town. The request to survey the city, however, was not admissible. Because of an affront Emperor Rudolf II George Popel of Lobkowicz was captured in 1594 and his reign Strašice confiscated for the benefit of the Exchequer. The ironworks then became a significant imperial munitions foundry. In 1604, the Walloon iron founder Heinrich Caspar from Sarth ( Jindřich Kaspar ze Sartu ) established the ironworks Strašice one of the first blast furnaces in Bohemia. As a result of the Thirty Years' War Strašice lost its ancient privileges and sank down to the village.
