  • The Colorful Ligustereule ( Polyphaenis sericata ) differs by greenish Überstäubungen on the front wings and the more orange-yellow hind wings, which also have a center spot.

Distribution and habitat

The species is distributed from north-west Africa through South and Central Europe. In the north it is found in parts of Scotland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Estonia. Further east, extends the distribution area of southern Russia and Asia Minor to the Caucasus. The yellow wing Raseneule prefers dry grassland habitats, forest edges and parklands. However, the very active flying butterflies can also be found far outside the actual habitat.

Way of life

The moths are crepuscular and nocturnal and appear to artificial sources of light and love to bait, but ( Tanacetum vulgare) were also observed visiting flowers of tansy. They fly in one generation from June to September. The caterpillars feed on various grasses, such as meadow of fescue ( Festuca pratensis ) and of purple moor grass ( Molinia ) and Süßgrasarten ( Poaceae ). They overwinter in the soil and pupate deep in the earth.
