Streamliner

A streamlined vehicle has a body that is built extremely streamlined. Therefore vehicle manufacturers are developing particularly streamlined body shapes in order to get a good drag coefficient for a car to consume less air resistance. The less air resistance, the lower the rolling resistance and fuel consumption, and the higher the possible speed.

Development

Streamlined vehicles came in the 1920s and 30s on the first time. Here in aircraft recovered aerodynamic findings have been implemented. There are streamlined cars (including trucks ), power buses, streamlined locomotives and streamlined trains.

Known streamlined vehicles are:

  • Road Rumpler Tropfenwagen ( 1921)
  • Tatra 77 ( 1931 )
  • Auto Union Type C Avus Streamline cars ( 1937)
  • Wanderer Streamline Special (1938 )
  • Mercedes -Benz T 80 (1939 )
  • BMW 328 (from 1936) with body by Wendler
  • Mercedes -Benz C111 (from 1969)
  • Truck prototype of the designer Luigi Colani
  • Rail transport Rail Zeppelin (1929 )
  • Flying Hamburger (1933 )
  • Henschel -Wegmann train (1935 )
  • DR- 05 series (1935 )
