Streptolysin O ( Tacy ) is a protein of the cell walls of Streptococcus pyogenes with hemolytic activity. It is released by streptococci in inflammatory infections and is a ectotoxin, the lysed red blood cells. After an infection, antibodies against streptolysin O, which are called antistreptolysin O form.
