Location

The university town located in the district of Schwabing -Freimann in northern Munich between the Ungererstraße, Föhringer ring and the northern part of the English garden. In the immediate vicinity is the stop student city ( Munich U -Bahn line 6 bus routes 50, 143, 177, 181, 231 and 233)

History

The first concept was developed by Egon Wiberg, the rector of the Ludwig- Maximilians- University. There the club student city of Munich was established.

Once an area of ​​8 ha was provided at the edge of the English Garden, the Bavarian Minister President Hanns Seidel came after long and difficult negotiations a Erbbauvertrag between the Free State of Bavaria and the Association student town Munich. At the beginning of the project 1 million DM were provided by the Max Kade Foundation.

There was an architectural competition, whose winner Ernst Maria Lang in 1960 with the architecture community Lang and Pogadl awarded the design contract.

First, in the university city of 1500 residential places were provided, the number was, however, increased in 1971 to 2500.

The construction began in 1961, with the student city was completed in four phases. In the first (1961-1963) the houses 1-6 were built in the second ( 1966-1968 ) the houses 7 and 8 and in the third ( 1971-1973 ) the houses 9 and 10. The last four houses were built in the years 1974-1975 in the fourth phase of construction. Some houses have names that are mostly dedicated to the supporters of the building.

In 1975 a nursery was established and built by the 1976-1977 Hans Scholl hall in the student center.

The above-ground subway stop student city was opened on 19 October 1971, when eight of the 14 houses were completed.

Live

The student city mainly consists of two parts, which were built in several phases: Firstly, there is the so-called old town, which consists of several two -to three- storey buildings and two nine-story high-rise buildings and was built in the first phase. On the other hand, there is the New Town with 7 - to 21-storey high-rise buildings from the later years of construction.

Old town

The Old Town offers 627 single rooms with a living area of 8-20 m with sink. Kitchen, shower, toilet and a lounge are shared.

In order to create cheap and relatively fast living space, 2001, container buildings were created here with the fixed residences. In addition, in 2005 a pilot plant was built in co-operation with, among others, the School of Architecture Munich. The ensemble consists of seven micro compact homes, self-contained residential units on 6.80 m2 floor area ( in the outer circumference ).

Neustadt

The five houses of the new town built around the so-called atrium. Apart from a house they are named after the colors of the window frame. The following houses:

Tutors
