Sturefors Castle

The Sturefors Castle (formerly Thurefors ) is located on Lake Erlangen in the Swedish municipality of Linköping, which belongs to the province of Östergötland. The name of the castle comes from Margareta Sture, the wife of a former owner.

The first castle was built in the late 16th century. From this building, there are only a few parts of the northern wing. The main building with its three floors and the high pitched roof was designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger for Count Carl Piper. Also a part of the park, which began its investment in 1707, was built to plans Nicodemus Tessin the French model. Later the park was expanded and remodeled according to plans by CF Adelcrantz and FAU CRONSTEDT. The castle is distinguished above all by its furnishings from the 18th century. It has the status of a historical monument since 1976.

The building is owned since its formation the nobility or Bielke Oxenstierna. The current owner is Count Nils Bielke. The castle houses a collection of portraits, the images of members of the noble houses or other nobles show.
