Zwergstörwels

The Zwergstörwels ( Sturisomatichthys toni leigh ) belongs to the order of the catfish -like, his family are the armored catfish (lat.: Loricariidae ). It is native to South America. The Zwergstörwelse (eg Sturisomatichthys aureum ) are difficult to distinguish from each other.

Identification

The Zwergstörwels is about 14-18 cm tall. His body is elongated, the head goes forward to a point. The upper part of his tail is longer than the lower. The two parts of the caudal fin are elongated and pointed.

Sex differences

The male Zwergstörwels is slimmer than the female and has a relatively short beard (1-2 mm), which projects perpendicularly from the head. This can be very nice to see the pictures.

Propagation

The female lays about 40 eggs. The male fanning fresh water on the eggs until they hatch, this happens after 6-7 days. In this case, the male supports the boys hatching. The pups have then still have a yolk sac from which they live. Only after 4-5 days they start to eat.
