STX Europe

STX Europe is an international shipbuilding group of 15 shipyards in Brazil, Finland, France, Norway, Romania and Vietnam, with around 15,500 employees ( end of 2008).

The turnover in 2008 amounted to 31.5 billion Norwegian kroner. The shipbuilding company, trading under the name of Aker Yards ASA from 2004 to 2009 in the OBX index on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Since early 2009, the South Korean company STX Business Group is the sole owner and prompted a delisting of STX Europe by the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Overview

STX Europe is divided into three main business areas: Cruise Ships & Ferries ( STX Finland and STX France ), offshore & specialized vessels (STX OSV ), and Other ( STX Norway). The former merchant shipbuilding division was spun off in 2008 from the Group. Cruise ships ( Chantiers de l' Atlantique see ) built almost exclusively at STX Finland Cruise Oy in Turku and STX France Cruise SA in Saint- Nazaire.

History

In February 2002, the shipbuilding activities of the Norwegian companies Aker Kværner ASA and were bundled under the management company Aker Kværner Yards AS in Oslo. Then in 2004 came under new ownership, the shipbuilding group Aker Yards ASA, which was recorded from then on Oslo Stock Exchange.

In June 2006, the shipyard Chantiers de l' Atlantique ( Saint- Nazaire ) was taken of the Alstom Group. Since March 2007, Aker Yards is self-employed. The previously held by Aker ASA shares in Aker Yards of 40.1 % was sold and gone in free float.

In October 2007, the South Korean shipyard STX Shipbuilding Group purchased 39.2 % of the shares of Aker Yards. In November 2008, Aker Yards has renamed STX Europe. December 31, 2008 STX controlled 93.87 % stake in STX Europe and in 2009 took over sole possession. As of February 11, 2009 STX Europe has been delisted from the Oslo Stock Exchange.

STX Europe held until July 12, 2009, minority interest of 30 % in 2008 formed shipbuilding group Wadan Yards.

Wadan Yards

In Germany were from 1998 to 2008 the Aker MTW in Wismar and in 2002 the Warnow Werft ( previously under the name of Kvaerner Warnow Werft GmbH ) in Rostock -Warnemünde ( from mid-2003 Aker Warnow Werft GmbH, from the spring of 2004 Aker Warnemünde Operations GmbH and Aker Warnemünde Real Estate GmbH ) to the group. Shipyards acted from 2003 under the joint umbrella brand " Aker Ostsee " since 2005 under the name " Aker Yards Germany ".

In March 2008, Aker Yards sold the majority of the two German shipyards and at the Shipyard in Mykolaiv Ukraine to the Russian investment company FLC West. The three yards and three engineering firms were part of the new joint venture, Aker Yards Ukraine Holding, in the FLC West 70 % and Aker Yards had 30 % of the shares. The transaction took retroactive effect from 1 January 2008 and as of September 22, 2008 were renamed the shipyards as Wadan Yards.

12 July 2009 STX Europe announced the minority interest of 30% in the Wadan Yards Group AS to the Luxembourg-based mandataria Finance SA to have sold. Parallel were still open issues with FLC West Sarl clarified.
