Stylopharyngeus muscle

The Musculus stylopharyngeus (Latin for " stylus -pharyngeal muscle " ) is a narrow, nearly circular in cross-section skeletal muscle of the head. It originates at the styloid process ( styloid process ) of the temporal bone and radiates into the pharyngeal wall. The muscle lifts along with the musculus musculus and salpingopharyngeus to palatopharyngeus the pharynx during swallowing. The innervation carried by the glossopharyngeal nerve ( cranial nerve IX).
