Styrsö

Styrsö is an island and a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götaland County and the historic province of Västergötland. The place is located in Gothenburg's southern archipelago and is also one of the 21 Districts of the City of Gothenburg. The name " Styrsö " is derived from the Norse styrir, the ship commander means and was used in 1300 in the name Styrisø for the island.

On the island there are three ports for passenger ferries ( Bratten, Tången, Skäret ). The ferries are operated by Styrsöbolaget on behalf of Västtrafik. There is also the cargo and fishing port Sandviken in the north and the recycling port in the south of the island.

Between the islands and Styrsö Donsö there is a bridge, also regular ferry services to Saltholmen.
