Suaedoideae

Suaeda nigra

The Suaedoideae are a subfamily of the family of Amaranthaceae ( Amaranthaceae ). Previously they were made the goosefoot family ( Chenopodiaceae ).

Description

The leaves of the Suaedoideae always have a trained leaf area. The blade cross-section there is a central and many lateral vascular bundles ( except Bienertia ). At the base of the leaves not run down the stem nor are they amplexicaul. The inflorescences are axillary cymes. The flowers are free in the axils of the bracts, bracteoles also are available. The envelope consists of five flowers Tepals which are more or less joined together at the base. The number of stamens is five. In most seeds lack the endosperm, the spiral embryo fills the seed completely.

Dissemination

The Suaedoideae are distributed almost worldwide. They are important components of the vegetation of saline habitats in coastal and inland. Particularly widespread they are dry ( arid ) areas.

Photosynthetic

Among the Suaedoideae there are about equal numbers of C3 plants such as C4 plants. In the evolution of the subfamily of the C4 photosynthetic pathway is repeatedly arisen independently of each other: two times with coronary anatomy in Suaeda section Salsina and Suaeda section Schoberia, amazingly, without Kranz anatomy in Bienertia and in Suaeda section Borszczowia. Here you can find the C4 synthesis routes without spatial distribution in a single cell type instead ("single cell C4" ).

System

The Suaedoideae be divided into two tribes:

  • Tribus Bienertieae Ulbr. With the single genus Bunge ex Boiss Bienertia. Using three types: Bunge ex Boiss Bienertia cycloptera.
  • Bienertia sinuspersici Akhani
  • Bienertia kavirense Akhani
  • Soden ( Suaeda Forssk ex JFGmel, including Alexandra Bunge and Bunge Borszczowia. . ): With about 82 species nearly worldwide. The class is further divided into: Subgenus Brezia ( Moq. ) Friday & shooter Section Brezia ( Moq. ) people
  • Section Alexandra ( Bunge) Kapralow et al.
  • Section Borszczowia ( Bunge) Freitag & shooter
  • Section Physophora Ilyin
  • Section Salsina Moq. S. L. (sensu Sagittarius et al. )
  • Section Schanginia ( C.A.Meyer ) people
  • Section Schoberia ( C.A.Meyer ) people
  • Section Suaeda
