Subdistricts of East Timor

This list outlines the administrative units of East Timor. The currently valid structure was determined with the ministerial document 6/2003 of 29 July 2003. The state of East Timor is divided into 13 districts, which are further divided into a total of 65 Subdistrikte. The administrative unit of the Sucos is comparable to a European community in about. These also feature aldeias, who also have an elected leader. Some changes in the Sucos and aldeias were n 6/2003 were made after the publication of the Ministerial document ° even on 14 July 2004.

Some cities of East Timor stretch over a number of Sucos. The capital Dili spreads even more Subdistrikte and consists solely of 18 urban Sucos, which are comparable to districts.

In addition, there is a total of 442 Sucos 2,225 aldeias. These are n ° 199/2009 listed in the Ministerial document. The document also sets out the notation for the administrative units laid down to the aldeias.

Districts

District Aileu

Aileu is in the northwest of East Timor and is one of the two districts without access to the sea. Aileu bordered to the north by the district of Dili, on the east by Manatuto, on the southeast by Manufahi, to the south Ainaro, on the west by Ermera and to the northwest by Liquiçá. Subdistrikte are Aileu, Laulara, Lequidoe and Remexio.

District Ainaro

Ainaro is located on the south coast of East Timor and the Timor Sea. To the north it borders on the district Aileu, to the east by Manufahi, on the southwest by Cova Lima, on the west by Bobonaro and to the northwest by Ermera. Subdistrikte are Ainaro, Hato -Udo, Hatu - Builico and Maubisse. During the Indonesian occupation of the sub-district Turiscai was separated and the district Manufahi connected, what Hato -Udo from Manufahi joined Ainaro. 2003, the subdistrict Mape - Zumalai was separated from Ainaro and the district Cova Lima slammed.

District of Baucau

The district of Baucau is located on the eastern north coast of East Timor on the road from Wetar. To the east it borders on the district Manatuto, on the west by a loud and on the south by Viqueque. Subdistrikte are Baguia, Baucau, Laga, Quelicai, Vemasse and Venilale.

District Bobonaro

The district Bobonaro is the northern western border of East Timor. In the west and southwest lies the Indonesian West Timor, south of the East Timorese district of Cova Lima, north Liquiçá, Ermera east and southeast reaches a small strip Bobonaros approached the district Ainaro. To the northwest lies the Savu Sea. Subdistrikte are Atabae, Balibo, Bobonaro, Cailaco, Lolotoe and Maliana.

District of Cova Lima

Cova Lima occupies the southern western border of East Timor. In the west and north- west lies the Indonesian West Timor, in the north is bordered Cova Lima district to the East Timorese Bobonaro and on the east by Ainaro. In the south the Timor Sea is located. Subdistrikte are Fatululic, Fatumean, Fohorem, Zumalai, Maucatar, Suai and Tilomar. The subdistrict Zumalai came with the local government reform of 2003 by the District Ainaro to Cova Lima. Between 2003 and 2004 Casabauc was created in the subdistrict of Suco Tilomar.

Dili district

The district Dili with the eponymous state capital is the smallest of the 13 districts of East Timor. It lies on the north coast of Timor on the Savu Sea, and to the east by Manatuto, to the south and to the west by Aileu Liquiçá. The island of Atauro, north of the capital, is a sub-district of Dili. The state capital is allocated to the Subdistrikte Cristo Rei (East Dili ), Dom Aleixo (West Dili ), Nain Feto (East Dili ) and Veracruz ( Central Dili ).

The subdistrict Metinaro bordered to the east of the capital. On 14 July 2004, numerous changes in the distribution of Sucos were carried out:

Bairo Central, Bairo Formosa, Bairo dos Grilhos were combined into Gricenfor.

District Ermera

Ermera is in the northwest of East Timor and is one of the two districts without a sea- coast. It is bordered on the north by the district Liquiçá, on the northeast by Dili, on the east by Aileu, on the southeast by Ainaro and to the west by Bobonaro. Subdistrikte are Atsabe, Ermera, Hatulia, Letefoho and Railaco.

District loud

Loud is the easternmost district of East Timor. At loud bordered to the west by the districts of Baucau and Viqueque, in the north of the Banda Sea with the Strait of Wetar and to the south the Timor Sea. To loud District includes the easternmost point of the island (Cape Cutcha ) and the island of Jaco. Subdistrikte are Iliomar, loud, Lospalos, Luro and Tutuala.

District Liquiçá

Liquiçá is in the northwest of East Timor at the Savu Sea. Liquiçá bordered to the east by the district of Dili, on the southeast by Aileu, to the south and to the west by Ermera Bobonaro. Subdistrikte are Bazartete, Liquiçá and Maubara.

District Manatuto

The district Manatuto is in the middle of the country and extends from the north coast at the Strait of Wetar to the south coast in the Timor Sea. In the east borders the districts of Baucau and Viqueque, on the west Manufahi, Aileu and Dili. Subdistrikte are Barique, laclo, Laclubar, Laleia, Manatuto and Soibada.

District Manufahi

Manufahi is located on the south coast of East Timor and the Timor Sea. Manufahi bordered to the east by the district Manatuto, to the west and to the north by Ainaro Aileu. Subdistrikte are Alas, Fatuberliu, seed and Turiscai. In the Portuguese colonial period, the district was named after the capital seed. During the Indonesian occupation of the sub-district Hatu Udo was separated and joined the district Ainaro what Turiscai of Ainaro joined Manufahi.

Oecusse district

East Timor's westernmost district forms an enclave surrounded on three sides within the Indonesian West Timor. Just to the north of the district has free access to the Savu Sea. Subdistrikte are Nitibe, Oesilo, Pante Macassar and Passabe. At three in the border areas is still under discussion with Indonesia on the membership: The island of Fatu Sinai on the western tip of the district, Nuaf Bijae Sunan ( subdistrict Passabe ) and an area at Naktuka ( subdistrict Nitibe ).

District Viqueque

Viqueque located on the eastern coast of the Timor Sea. To the north it borders on the district of Baucau, on the east by a loud and on the west by Manatuto. Subdistrikte are Lacluta, Ossu, Uato -Lari, Uatucarbau and Viqueque.

For statistical purposes, the districts were grouped into regions.

  • Region I: Baucau, loud, Viqueque
  • Region II: Manatuto, Manufahi, Ainaro
  • Region III: Dili, Aileu, Ermera
  • Region IV: Bobonaro, Cova Lima, Liquiçá
  • Special Region (Region V): Oecusse

Historical- cultural regions

Historic Cultural East Timor is divided into a Western ( Loro Munu ) and eastern region ( Loro Sae ). Before colonization by Portugal and the Netherlands, the island of Timor was divided into three loose power areas that were connected by a complicated system of alliances. The middle part dominated the kingdom Wehale with laran, the spiritual center of the whole island. With the colonial division of the sphere of influence of Wehale its eastern part to the eastern part of the island to the colony Portuguese Timor and later from the state of East Timor was. East Timor is divided into three Roman Catholic dioceses. The Diocese of Baucau in the east with the districts Lautem, Baucau, Viqueque and Manatuto, the Diocese of Dili with Dili, Aileu, Ermera, Ainaro, Manufahi and Oecusse and the diocese with Maliana Bobonaro, Liquiçá and Cova Lima.
