Subdivisions of São Paulo

This is a list of the municipalities of São Paulo.

São Paulo is divided according to the compass in nine administrative regions ( zonas ): Northeast, Northwest, West, Centre -South, Centre, South East, South, East 01 and East 02 The city, led executive by a prefect, divided into 31 sub-prefectures, the subprefeituras, which are comparable to boroughs. These are divided into a further 96 districts, the districts ( distritos ).

Inner-city administrative authority is the Secretaria Municipal de Coordenação the Subprefeituras, currently ( 2014) under the leadership of Chico Macena da Silva.

The figures in the table are based on the information of the secretariat, which reflect the censuses of 2000 and 2010 of the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística ( IBGE ).
