Subdivisions of Zürich

Zurich neighborhoods are made up of 12 districts, each comprising two to four of the 34 districts.

Have their origin these neighborhoods in the incorporations of 1893 and 1934, when the territory of the city of Zurich has been extended to a total of 19 independent municipalities. These new neighborhoods were still an independent village life, which was maintained in the neighborhood associations on. Even today, these clubs are working for the interests of the local population. Also guilds and sections of parties are still present in the everyday life of the city.

There is in each county a county office that serves as the persons ' registration office, and can be done in the other administrative matters. Larger districts also have its own neighborhood office. Of central importance is the neighborhoods in the urban statistics.

Politically, the significance of the circles has diminished, especially since in elections and referendums smaller circles with further small circles or each with a larger circle will be merged into one constituency. The number of constituencies varies by now depending on the subject between five and nine. For some time no longer congruent with the urban districts the school districts ( reduced number ), the competent notaries as well as the parishes are ( higher number ).
