Sublabial scale

The sublabial (syn. Sublabialia, Infralabialia; singular Sublabiale, actually Scutum sublabiale ) often referred to as lower lip plates or scales, at Schuppenkriechtieren are the dandruff, which extend along the lower jaw edge of the mouth opening. The Mental, which forms the front end of the two Sublabialreihen is not counted for this purpose. At the upper jaw these scales are compared with the Supralabialen

The name Sublabiale arises from the term " labium " for the lip and the position labeled " sub ". Like all other head shields is their number, shape, size and training is an important determining feature within the snake systematics.
