Subprefecture of Santo Amaro

Santo Amaro is one of 31 municipalities of the Brazilian city of São Paulo. It is located in the Zona Sul and was, until its incorporation in 1935 a separate town. The city district next to the eponymous district includes the districts of Campo Belo and Campo Grande. The population was 219 659 in 2010.

Santo Amaro is the city district where in the past, most German immigrants settled in São Paulo. Up to 1830 here and in the surrounding areas settled about 7,000 German, especially from the Hunsrück, Saarland, Rheinhessen and Pfalz.

Today he is one of the economic centers in the south of the city with relatively high rents and land prices.
