Succession planning

Succession planning is an instrument of human resources and has the goal of the succession of leadership positions usually ensure to higher levels of management.

Early forms of succession planning primarily comprised lists of potential successors for certain positions.

Modern forms of succession planning or the succession management consist of a series of successive levels of measures. First there is the identification of key positions. Using the risk assessment attempts per key position to assess the probability with which they could be ( due to attrition, retirement or similar) vacant in a given period. As part of an internal talent identification employees are identified in the long run have the potential to fill key positions successfully. The case identified candidates are then prepared in the context of targeted staff development efforts on key positions.
