Suceava County

Suceava [ sut͡ʃe̯ava ] is a Romanian county ( Judet ) in the Bukovina region with the county capital of Suceava. Its territory covers the southern part of the former imperial crown land Bukovina. The license plate number and the common abbreviation for the circle are SV.

The Suceava County is bordered on the north by Ukraine, on the east by the counties of Botosani and Iasi, on the south by the circles Neamţ and Harghita and Mureş in the west to the counties Bistrita-Nasaud and Maramureş.

Demography

In 2002, the county 688 435 inhabitants and a population density of 80 inhabitants per km ².

On 1 January 2009 707 588 inhabitants were registered in Suceava county, and thus had a population density of 83 inhabitants per km ².

Geography

The county has a total area of 8,555 km ², making it the second largest of the 41 counties. This corresponds to 3.58 % of the area of Romania.

The Suceava County consists of 413 official settlements. 16 of them have the status of a city, 98 to a community. The rest are assigned to administrative cities and towns.
