Sucidava

Sucidava ( read as: Sutschidava ) is the former capital of the Dacian tribe of Suci. It is located on the present-day city of Corabia, Olt County, Romania. In the 2nd and 3rd century AD, there was a Roman settlement here. Southeast of it there was a late Roman fort. Today to see the defensive walls of the garrison from the 4th to the 5th century. We have also found Roman baths ( thermae ), a Christian basilica from the 5th to 6th century and roads.

Noteworthy is the "secret fountain" of the fort, an engineering feat of its time, which should ensure the water supply even during a siege.

Here also a bridge over the Danube was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great; The inauguration took place 328 AD. The bridge had a length of over 2400 meters and was therefore one of the longest bridges in the ancient world. It was only a short time. A pillar ( foot ) is still to be seen.
