Action
The focus of the piece was first performed in 1958 is the rich Violet Venable, a widow who brags about her son Sebastian for years. When he is gone, and Mrs. Venable learns of his grisly murder - cannibalism, it shall consult the experienced psychiatrist Dr. Cukrowicz. Mrs. Venables niece Catherine, who was on the day of the murder in Sebastian ( he was on the beach eaten by prostitutes ) who wants to leave their trauma and is accompanied by her aunt to the meetings. Violet Venable requires Cukrowicz, Catherine " to cut the horrible story out of her head " ...

In the premiere Broadway Stars played like Hortense Alden ( Violet Venable ), Anne Meacham ( Catherine) and Robert Lansing ( Cukrowicz ).
In Canada, Denise Verville received the 2000 Prix Paul Hébert for her performance as Violet Venable. A highly regarded German staging ( by Pia Hänggis with Cordula Trantow, Stephanie Kellner, Jacques Breuer, Senta Auth and Kevin Kölker ) was seen in 2006.
