Süderlügum

Suderlugum (Danish: Sønder Løgum, Frisian: Läigem ) is a municipality in the district of North Friesland Schleswig -Holstein. Wimmersbüll ( Vimmersbøl ) is located in the municipal area.

Geography and transport

Suderlugum lies on the border between marsh and Geest. The county town of Husum is 50 kilometers away to the south, Flensburg is located about 40 kilometers to the east. 10 km north of the community is already in Denmark, the small town of Tønder. With the Tønder Kommune Suderlugum shares on a short section of a common border. The other, directly neighboring municipalities are (clockwise): Ellhöft, Westre, Lexgaard, Braderup and Humptrup (all district of North Friesland).

The Federal Highway 5, which forms from the German - Danish border to just behind Brunsbuttel on the Elbe the Schleswig-Holstein part of the Green Coast Road, the community runs through from north to south and connects on one side to Tønder, south facing with Niebüll and Husum. In the district Wimmersbüll is the breakpoint " Suderlugum " the reactivated after 20 years of standstill in 2001, part of the Marschbahn of Tønder to Niebüll. It is the northernmost railway breakpoint on German mainland.

History

The village, located on Ox Road, was first mentioned in 1177. The name Lügum means " the waters" and points to the harbor, the place had in the Middle Ages. The addition of " Southshore " served to distinguish the earlier also lying in the Duchy of Schleswig Norderlügum and Osterlügum.

From 1889 to 2007 Suderlugum was the administrative seat of the homonymous administrative district or office. On February 28, 1970 Wimmersbüll was incorporated.

Policy

Municipal council

Of the 17 seats of the municipal council, the CDU had since the local elections in 2008 six, voters Community WGS five and the SPD and the SSW three seats. The choice on May 26, 2013 had the following results: WGS four and CDU, SPD and SSW three seats. The turnout was 47.5 per cent last. It was awarded to only 13 seats.

Mayor

For the election period 2013-2018 Christian Magnus Petersen ( WGS ) was elected mayor. He was the successor of Harrogate Hansen ( CDU), who held the office 15 years.

Coat of arms

Blazon: "More than blue - silver waves in green under an elevated, sloping silver bar eight gold, in the form of an eight mountain forming, front and rear gently rising steeply sloping dunes. "

By 2007, the congregation led no crest. With resolution of the Office Suderlugum the community decided with only minor changes to keep its coat of arms on.

Economy

In the former agricultural community, many retail businesses have settled that benefit from cross-border trade with Denmark.

Attractions

In the list of cultural monuments in Suderlugum are registered in the list of monuments of Schleswig- Holstein cultural monuments.

The Süderlügum St. Mary's Church was first mentioned in 1240. 1930 its medieval ceiling paintings was rediscovered. In the church seven portraits hang from the pastors family Claudius, whose most famous son, the poet Matthias was.
