Sudhir Kakar

Sudhir Kakar ( born July 25, 1938 in Nainital, Uttarakhand ) is an Indian psychoanalyst, scholar and writer.

Life and work

Sudhir Kakar was born as the official son and worked as an engineer on a Hamburg shipyard. He studied economics in Mannheim and then returned temporarily to India, where he happened to Erik Erikson met ( " the great analyst, social psychologists and Development Researchers from Harvard " ), who just wrote his book on Gandhi. He was the reason for the conversion to psychoanalysis. He had studied just as Kakar psychology and took him as his assistant to Harvard. ( " So I became a doctor instead of a patient. " ) Kakar was formed in 1971 at the Sigmund Freud Institute in Frankfurt am Main for the psychoanalyst. His teaching analysis on Freud Institute of Alexander Mitscherlich in Frankfurt, he has earned by its own account through market research for Henkel. He practiced in New Delhi, taught at Harvard, Princeton, Chicago and Paris and now lives in Goa. His books " Childhood and Society in India ", " The violence of the Pious ", " The mystic and the art of ecstasy ," " Culture and Psyche ( Culture and Psyche ) " and others made him known worldwide.

The French newspaper Le Nouvel Observateur honored him in 2005 as one of the '25 master thinkers of the world '.
