Sufi Abu Taleb

Sufi Abu Taleb (Arabic صوفي أبو طالب born January 27, 1925 in Egypt, † February 21, 2008 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) was an Egyptian politician. After the assassination of Anwar Sadat, he was eight days Acting President of Egypt.

Career

Abu Taleb was on 4 November 1978 to November 4, 1983 President of the Parliament. In this capacity he took over after the assassination of President Sadat on October 6, 1981 representative whose office until Hosni Mubarak took office on 14 October 1981.

Prior to his political career, Abu Taleb studied law in Egypt, France and Italy in 1952 and earned a doctorate at the Sorbonne. Later Abu Taleb was president of Cairo University and a co-founder of the University of Madinat al - Fayyum. Abu Taleb was a member of the Islamic Research Academy.

Taleb was a proponent of integrating sharia into the Egyptian laws. Through his initiative, Article 2 of the Constitution was the rule that the Sharia is their principal source of legislation in Egypt.

Abu Taleb died of a heart attack and was buried with military honors.

He was married and had four children, two sons and two daughters.
