Suh Yongsun

Yongsun Suh, Yong Sun and Suh ( Kor. 서용선; * 1951 in Seoul, South Korea) is a South Korean painters and sculptors. He lives and works mainly in the vicinity of Seoul in Gyeonggi -do.

Life

Suh Yongsun is considered as one of the most important representatives of contemporary art in South Korea. After his retirement from his long career as a professor of Fine Arts at Seoul National University, where he had studied himself, he was honored in 2009 by the Museum of Contemporary Art Korea "Artist of the Year".

Besides his work in his own country, among other things worked in 1995 in Vermont in the United States and was invited several times to Melbourne. 2001 he also worked as a visiting professor in Hamburg.

Work

In his style is traditional Korean painting style and subject matter combine with European positions such as German Expressionism and of Francis Bacon.

Among the many cities that Suh visited on his travels, particularly New York and Berlin had a great influence on his paintings, whose subjects are often painted with coarse line city scenes in which masked appearing as people show up.
