Sui Jianguo

Sui Jianguo (Chinese隋建国also Sui JianGuo, born 1956 in Qingdao, China) is a Chinese artist and professor of sculpture at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.

Life

Sui is the child of a poor working class family. In his hometown of Qingdao he first learned traditional Chinese art, before he was also involved in Western art. In the 1980s, he graduated from the Shandong Art College and went to Beijing where he received the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing with a master's degree. He was then taken as a research assistant in the Department of Sculpture and rented in the Chinese capital also has a private studio. First lectures as a visiting professor also took him abroad to Australia and France. Meanwhile, the professor of sculpture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Artistic work

In addition to sculpture Sui is also working with the means of video art, installation art and performance. Sui is best known in the West, especially with his often strongly colored sculptures that usually have a strong connection to Chinese history and should reflect the ambivalence between socialism and capitalist modern China. So he poured the classic Mao suit in iron and bronze, and let him rust or painted it in bright colors. Much has been discussed and the oversized red toy dinosaur with the inscription " Made in China".
