Suisun Valley AVA

Suisun Valley AVA is a recognized since December 27, 1982 wine-growing region in the U.S. state of California and part of the national Napa Valley AVA.

Location

The vineyards here are spread over de Solano County. The growing area on the south of the famous Napa Valley. The eponymous Suisun Valley lies between the Vaca Mountains and the Mt George Range to the west. The valley ends at the Suisun Bay in the south while the north by the border of Napa County has been defined.

Climate

The proximity to the Bay of San Pablo and the bay of San Francisco a comparatively cool climate and thus allows the cultivation of early maturing varieties Pinot Gris or Riesling although the average sunshine duration is very high.

After developed at the University of California, Davis climate reference model according to Winkler and Amerine, the area was classified as a class III.

Geology

The soil is predominantly loamy nature. Depending on the position, it is more of a sandy loam or a calcareous clay soil.

Is irrigated the area over the Putah South Canal, which is fed from Lake Berryessa and is managed by the operating company Solano Irrigation District.
