Suite española

Suite española, Op 47 is a suite of the Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz ( 1860-1909 ) from 1886 to A tribute Albéniz ' to known regions and cities of his homeland is. Granada, Cataluña, Seville, Cádiz, Asturias, Aragón, Castilla and Cuba. The first edition contained only the title Granada, Cataluña, Seville and Cuba, the remaining tracks were later released, sometimes under another name. In summary, all eight titles were published in 1912 by Hofmeister Verlag. From Hofmeister comes the numbering Opus 47, which is not chronologically indicative of Albéniz's works, as they had been forgiven by Albéniz and Publishing random.

The work does not reach the same tone and complexity as Albéniz's piano cycle Iberia ( 1905-08 ).

Granada ( Serenade )

Will open the Suite in F Major, Allegretto, 3/8-time.

Cataluña ( Courante )

Cataluña, the home of the composer, is the shortest piece of the suite and waits a short dance in G Minor on. The B section of the piece is held in C major.

Sevilla ( Sevillanas )

G major, Allegretto, 3/4-time. Individual quarters are divided punctured or dissolved in triplets. Harmonious effectively does the skidding into the mediant E flat major with simultaneous widening of the piano writing. A copla ( nostalgic Cantilena at a central point ) in C minor provides the calm, clear contrast.

Cádiz ( Saeta )

The port city of Cádiz is a Saeta (Spanish: arrow) dedicated in D flat major, Allegretto, ma non troppo in 3/4-time. The Canto is kept in C-sharp minor.

Asturias ( Leyenda )

The former Kingdom of Asturias is concerned with a Leyenda ( Legend ) in rapid Allegro in G Minor. Toccatenartig to move both hands from using a single tone in continuous semiquavers, which is sometimes octave. The short middle section is determined by the dominant D major and strikes on clock beginning with octaves and chords. His starting place the piece in a reprise.

Aragon ( Fantasia)

Castilla ( Seguidilla )

Castile is a Seguidilla in F Sharp Major, Allegro, dedicated 3/4-time. Cuba, until the Spanish-American War in 1898 under Spanish rule, concludes the suite. The former colony is considered a nocturne in the style of a Habanera.

A well-known piano version of the suite exists among others of Alicia de Larrocha.

Transcriptions

For guitar

The Suite española because of their good ability to transcribe a favorite piece for guitarists. Getting arrangements for guitar were played by Albéniz contemporaries Francisco Tárrega and Miguel Llobet, around 1924 was followed by a very successful version of Andrés Segovia. Later, among others, John Williams, Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco and Julian Bream played an own versions.

For orchestra

There is also a transcription for orchestra by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, performed by the New Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos. Frühbeck de Burgos has in his transcription of "Cuba " is replaced by " Cordoba " from the " Cantos de España " ( Op.232 by Albeniz ).

Trivia

The piece Asturias is because of its high recognition value and drama the most well known of the suite and is often used as background music (eg, in Right in the Night by Jam & Spoon ).
