Sükhbaatar Province

The Sükhbaatar Aimag (Mongolian Сүхбаатар Аймаг ) is an aimag ( province ) of Mongolia, located in the east of the country.

This aimag is named after the Mongolian revolutionary hero Damdin Sükhbaatar.

Geographical location

To the east of Mongolia the hilly steppe turns into a wavy to flat landscape. In the south the vegetation corresponds to a semi-desert, as north-eastern foothills of the Gobi. The average height of moves 1000-1200 m.

Besides, there are 220 ​​extinct volcanoes in Sükhbaatar Aimag.

Traffic

Overland travel is practically only on horseback or possible with a Geländfahrzeug.

The airport Baruun -Urt ( ZMBU / UUN ) has two runways, one fixed it.

Economy

The Sükhbaatar aimag is one of the poorest regions of Mongolia, without significant industry. The people living in the countryside virtually exclusively by the nomadic animal husbandry, in the far north also farming is operated.

Culture

The monastery Erdenemandal Chiid is only a reminder of the former glory. The original location about 20 km to seven temples and 1,000 monks have houses until the Stalinist purges of 1938 fell victim.

Nature

The cave Taliin Agui is more than 200 m long, and holds approximately 100,000 cubic meters. It is one of the largest and most spectacular cave systems in Mongolia, with a total of 7 chambers. The entrance is frozen during a large part of the year, and is usually available only from August.

The dune area Molzog Els is about 250 square kilometers, and is located south of the Sum Ongon and Dariganga. The area is surrounded by several small lakes, including the Ganga Lake. It is surrounded by shrubbery, which slows down the transport of sand, and so prevents the dunes on migration.

The Ganga Lake is in the fall as a collective space for thousands of cranes and other migratory birds. It is 17 km south of the administrative center of Dariganga. The area around the lake is designated as a protected area, its ecosystem, however, is by grazing the banks remain threatened.
