Sukow-Levitzow

Sukow - Levitzow is a municipality in the district of Rostock in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). The community is managed by the Office Mecklenburg Switzerland domiciled in the not office belonging Teterow city. The municipality was created on 13 June 2004 from the merger of the previously independent municipalities Levitzow and Sukow - Marienhof.

Geography

The community Sukow - Levitzow north of the Mecklenburg Switzerland lies between the cities Teterow and Gnoien in a hilly area that slopes to the south to about 25 km ² lowland surrounding Teterower lake. East of Sukow - Levitzow runs the valley of the upper Peene. The southeast part of the municipality is located in the Natural Park of Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake Kummerow.

The municipality Sukow - Levitzow include the districts Levitzow, Sukow - Marienhof and Pohnstorf.

History

About 1,400 years ago, was close Sukow a Slavic Village Fortress, one of the oldest proven in Mecklenburg. Excavations of the Museum of Prehistory and Early History Schwerin revealed that it is the oldest finds of its kind in Mecklenburg in the uncovered here Slavic ceramics. The name Sukower group applies to these pieces.

Sukow

1314 Sukow was first mentioned in a document. From the beginning of the 16th century to the end of the 19th century the estate was in the possession of the von Blücher. The district Marienhof emerged only in the late 19th century as Vorwerk.

Levitzow

The district Levitzow appeared in 1304 for the first time on a document. The village church Levitzow is probably another 20 years or older, whereupon suggest the Romanesque arched windows.

The estate was to the end of the 18th century in the possession of Lowtzow family and then had various owners. In the 1930s, West German Catholic settlers arrived in the municipality.

The districts Levitzow and Marienhof lie on the road connecting Teterow after Gnoien, in the neighboring Thürkow is connected to the national road 108 ( Teterow -Rostock ). The nearest railway station is located in Teterow 10 km away.
