Sulaiman Layeq

Suleiman Laeq ( born 1930 ) (also Laiq, Laweq, Layeq ) is an Afghan poet and politician. From him comes the text of the Afghan National Anthem Garam shah, la garam shah at the time of the communist regime.

Laiq studied in Kabul literary studies, he completed his doctoral studies in the Soviet Union. From 1957 to 1968 he occupied various posts in the state media. In 1968 he moved into politics and was included in the board of the PDPA. Laiq belonged to the Parcham, the moderate- socialist wing of the party, with its director, Mir Akbar Khyber, he was related. Another sister was with Sibghatullah Mujaddadi, the later Afghan president, married.

After the communist revolution in 1978 Laiq was Minister of Education. As the rival Khalq faction excluded all Parcham supporters of the government and persecuted, even Laiq for a short time was imprisoned. In 1981 he became a member of the Central Committee and President of the Academy of Sciences and Minister of tribes, nomads and ethnic groups.
