Sulden

Solda (Italian: Solda ) is a mountain village with about 400 inhabitants in the western part of South Tyrol Suldental (Italy). It belongs to the municipality of Stelvio, situated at 1,900 m asl and is dominated by mountains of the Ortler group; this includes the Ortler, the king tip, the rear Schöntaufspitze and Monte Zebrù.

Tourism is in summer and in winter Suldens main branch. The place has more than 2000 beds. The hiking and skiing areas are accessible by eleven mountain railways and ski lifts. The Solda skiing area is a member of the Ortler Ski Arena.

The climber Reinhold Messner maintains on the alpine pastures of Solda a herd of yaks. It has a tavern in the village in a restored mountain farm. 2004, he has also opened the Messner Mountain Museum Ortles.

Public Buildings

The House of the mountains, built in the style of the 1970s, houses the Office of the Ortler Alpine School. It also serves to screenings of films with alpine content and (of course theoretical ) training on, for example, Alpine security. The above mentioned Messner Mountain Museum is of course open to the public.
