Sumiyoshi Monogatari

The Sumiyoshi Monogatari (Japanese住 吉 物语, German story from Sumiyoshi ) is a " classical narrative " (拟古 物语, Giko Monogatari ) from the 10th century ( Kamakura period ). Typological it belongs to the " Tsukuri Monogatari ", thematically with the Ochikubo Monogatari (落 洼 物语) and the Hachikazuki (鉢かづき) to the typed " stepchild - narratives " (継 子 话, mamako - banashi ). The author and the exact date of origin are unknown. The story involves two maki ( rolls). The original manuscript has been lost.

Overview

The Sumiyoshi Monogatari tells the love story of a third-class officer and a princess. The narrative begins with the princess one day runs away from her stepmother and seeks refuge in Sumiyoshi. The officer learns in a dream of the Kannon deity of the temple Hase- dera their whereabouts. He sets off to find the princess who finds her and after she has met her biological father, she marries the officials and both live happily ever after.
