Summer Palace of Peter the Great

The summer palace of Peter the Great (Russian Летний дворец Петра I) is to obtained in our days first residence of Peter the Great. It is located in St. Petersburg's Summer Garden.

The palace was built in the Baroque style to a design by Domenico Trezzini 1710-1714. It is among the oldest buildings in the city. The two -floor palace consists of 14 rooms.

The facade of the palace is decorated by 29 reliefs that represent the events of the Great Northern War in allegorical form. Independent artist of the reliefs was the German architect and sculptor Andreas Schlüter.

The residence was used only during the warm season from May to October so the walls are relatively thin and the windows have single glazing.

Peter moved into the nearly completed Palais in 1712 and lived there in the summer until his death in 1725. He occupied the ground floor, the upper floor was designed for Catherine I..

Museum

Since 1934, located in a historical palace museum, which is a branch of the Russian Museum. It is open from June to October.
