Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Taipei)

The Sun Yat- sen Memorial Hall (Chinese国立 国父 纪念馆, Pinyin Guoli Guofu Jinian Guǎn, National Memorial Hall of the father of ') is a memorial to the founder of the Republic of China, Sun Yat-sen, and is located in Xinyi District in Taipei Taiwan. It was completed on May 16, 1972, covers 29,464 square meters. It also houses a museum about the life of Sun Yat-sen and his revolution led by him. Furthermore, it is a cultural center for the public.

Description

The main entrance to the hall contains a statue of Sun Yat-sen, where every hour a changing of the guard is performed. The building houses an exhibition, a library and other facilities. The building itself is located in the nearby Zhongshan Park.

History

The plans for the construction of the hall were started in 1964 and was carried out in 1965, the cornerstone was laid. The architect was Dahong Wang (王 大 闳). On 16 May 1972, the construction was completed. Originally, the hall was mainly intended as a museum for Sun's life and the Xinhai Revolution, but it was later opened for exhibitions and performances. The Golden Horse Film Festival is held annually in the hall.
