Sunwapta Falls
The Sunwapta Falls is a waterfall on the Sunwapta River ( a tributary of the Athabasca River) in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. It lies about 55 km south of Jasper.
Nature
The waterfall is accessible via the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) on paved paths. He is a total of about 18 meters high and about nine feet wide. The water of the Sunwapta River originates from the Athabasca Glacier and falls down here in two stages. A walk of about two kilometers leads to the lower waterfall ( Lower Falls ).
Name
The name Sunwapta is a name of the local indigenous aboriginal and means as much as Wild water. In late spring, when the snow melt has been used on the tops, the waterfall shows the greatest turbulence.
