Supaplex

Supaplex is a system developed by Philip Jespersen and Michael stop computer game. It was published in 1991 and distributed by Digital Integration.

The gameplay is similar to that published in 1984 Boulder Dash, but contains new, separate elements.

History

The Supaplex developers and school friends Michael and Philip Jespersen stop began their work on the game in 1988. Initially under the name Think! wanted it as its own version of Boulder Dash write for the Amiga, which also should fit on a single floppy disk.

Upon completion, the idea came up to make the play money. The game makers of digital integration expressed interest and bought the rights to the game, though the developers were mostly concerned with flight simulations. The name of the game was changed to the well-known today as Think! was already used in another game. In addition to the Amiga version of the game for MS- DOS was sold. For the promotion and marketing of a few level was sent comprehensive demo to various gaming magazines.

Since 1994, the game is freeware and is available for download, after Maarten Egmond became aware of the game and gave the free distribution was permitted. Herman Perk asked him his SpeedFix available because the computer services had developed rapidly since the release of the game Supaplex and thus often twice ran too fast.

Gameplay

Supaplex contains 111 levels, which must be individually played in succession. The level of difficulty increases progressively, but it can total 3 level are skipped. In contrast to Boulder Dash, there is no time limit in the game.

The player controls in each level Murphy, who must collect Infotrons. Has earned a certain number, the output To successfully complete the game portion can be activated.

However, between are usually numerous obstacles and tasks that must solve the player. The boulders of Boulder Dash correspond Zonk, next to it Sniksnaks and Electrons move as an opponent through the game world. The developers also introduced new gameplay elements - for example, remote controlled exploding discs. In some sections of the game acts on Murphy a gravitational force, which can be escaped only by moving to fixed elements or by often large areas filled bases.

Supaplex was the first in the long line of style similar to Boulder Dash games, where not completely based the position of game elements on the game grid. So controlled mobile elements "liquid" through the game world or could be controlled precisely. However, this behavior also led to some known bugs so that elements sometimes got stuck between fields. Some levels created by players could successfully complete only through skilful exploitation of such errors.

Reclined Games

Some players and fans ( " Supaplexer " ) programmed according to their own versions of the game, so they are playable on new computers or new operating systems. Often the games are based entirely on the original game, but partly also new elements were introduced without changing the character.

A playable under Windows version of the game was released as freeware under the name Megaplex, programmed by Frank Schindler and enhanced by Paulo Matoso. Included are the 111 original levels, as well as a level editor and the ability to record or play their own demos. Since Megaplex based on the original code of the SpeedFix, the game is compatible to Supaplex level packages and demo recordings.

Information about savegames not exist in the beta versions, since all levels are accessible from the start and not have to be unlocked one after another. It was not until 2012 Matoso Paulo has the first official release of version 1.0 completed from Portugal, including savegames.
