Superior gluteal nerve

The ulnar glut ( a) eus superior ( Latin for "upper buttocks nerve" ) is a nerve of the lumbar plexus Cross ( lumbosacral plexus ). In animals, it is called a cranial gluteal nerve ( "front Krupp nerve" ).

The cells of origin ( root ) cells of the nerve are located in the lumbar and sacral part of the spinal cord from the fourth lumbar vertebra (L4 ) to the first sacral vertebra (S1).

The nerve passes in humans together with the homonymous artery and vein through the so-called foramen suprapiriform, the part of the greater sciatic above the piriformis muscle. In the domestic animals of the nerve from the lumbosacral trunk, a common origin strand for superior gluteal nerve, nerve goes from inferior gluteal and sciatic nerve. This leaves through the greater sciatic foramen the pelvic cavity.

The superior gluteal nerve contains almost exclusively motor nerve fibers innervate skeletal muscles of the hip region three: gluteus medius, gluteus minimus ( in animals: gluteus profundus ) and tensor fasciae latae.

Improper intramuscular injection in the buttocks, the upper buttocks nerve may be injured.
