Supersister

Super Sister was a Dutch fusion and progressive rock band that was formed in the late 1960s.

Band History

The band was founded in 1967/1968 by Robert Jan Stips, Sacha van Geest, Marco Vrolijk and Ron van Eck in The Hague under the name Sweet Okay Supersister and was initially in the local hippie scene on the road. In the spring of 1970 they released their first single as a Super Sister She Was Naked, which became a hit and earned the band a record deal with Polydor.

Super Sisters first album Present from Nancy appeared in the same year; 1971 was followed by To the Highe $ t Bidder, which is considered gelungenstes album of the band. With live performances, another hit single and the third album pudding and Yesterday, the band was in their home country in the early 1970s successfully.

Then, however, was disagreement over the musical direction, and Vrolijk and van Geest were replaced in 1973 by Charlie Mariano and Herman van Boeyen. The fourth, now jazzy album Iskander was not well received by the fans. Elton Dean finally took Mariano's post, but the band still broke up in 1974. Stips published shortly after the dissolution Super Sisters with van Eck and van Geest under the old name Sweet Okay Supersister the poorly received album Spiral Staircase.

Only in 2000 found Supersister for Progfest in Los Angeles together. More gigs followed, as well as two albums with older or current live recordings. Van Geest death in July 2001 meant the temporary end of Super Sisters. A scheduled appearance at the American NEARfest 2011 (North East Art Rock Festival in Bethlehem ) had to be canceled due to an illness van Eck; He died in July of this year.
