The young band sat down at the album recordings thus: The two composers and singers Rick Davies (Organ, Harmonica, Piano, Electric piano, vocals) and Roger Hodgson ( acoustic and bass guitar, cello, flageolet, vocals) joined Robert " Bob " Millar (percussion, harmonica ) and Richard Palmer ( acoustic and electric guitar, balalaika, vocals), who later acted as a lyricist for King Crimson. The album " Supertramp " is influenced by progressive rock bands such as Caravan, Yes and King Crimson; balalaika, cello and flageolet were used and experimented with guitar sounds in the recordings. Music and text have largely melancholic character. The songs were composed by Davies and Hodgson and written by Palmer.

The A- side of the original LP begins with the half -minute " Surely ", sung by Hodgson. "It's a Long Road " is characterized by Hodgson's falsetto voice and harmonica played by Davies. " Aubade " is a 50 -second played by Davies organ instrumental piece to which seamlessly "I Am Not Like Other Birds of Prey" followed, the following " Words Unspoken " a slow, melodic piece is like to this - both of Hodgson sung. "Maybe I'm a Beggar ," with the singing of Palmer and Hodgson, begins with a flageolet Introduction; the quiet sound is contrasted by harsh electric guitar sounds in the bridge. The A-side ends with the short " Home Again ", sung by Hodgson.

Your B-side begins with two impressive pieces that were sung in duet by Davies and Hodgson: "Nothing to Show", here is dominated by a fast, psychedelic organ sound and catchy guitar riffs, and "Shadow Song", the melancholic - is constructed with melodic piano and flute accompaniment. It follows that just over 12-minute " Try Again " in which show typical progressive rock experiments; the song sang Palmer and Hodgson in exchange and is characterized by changes in tempo, the free use of drums and guitar and long instrumental passages. The disc ends with a reprise of " Surely " which Hodgson sang and in the final part has a 2-minute instrumental part.
