Süpplingen

Süpplingen is a municipality in the district of Helmstedt in Lower Saxony ( Germany ). It is the seat of the velvet municipality North Elm, which belong to another five communities.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the Schunter, about 6 km west of the county town of Helmstedt on the main road 1

History

The place Süpplingen was first mentioned in the year 888 as Sophingi in an exchange certificate. Near Süpplingen is Süpplingenburg, which originated from a medieval castle.

In the second half of the 19th century began the industrialization of the area around Süpplingen. The focus was on the sugar processing and lignite mining, whose roots date back to about 1770 when the coal was mined by open pit.

  • Sueplingen in Saxony -Anhalt

Religions

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Lambertus is located in the town center. The church belongs to the provost king Lutter.

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Boniface was built in 1899 on Broad Street. Since 2008, the church belongs to the parish of St. Ludgeri in Helmstedt.
