Supreme Court of the Netherlands
The High Council of the Netherlands ( Dutch: Hoge Raad der Nederlanden ) is the highest court of law of the Netherlands, based in The Hague.
Composition
The High Council members are appointed by royal decree basis of a triple proposal of the Second Chamber, which in turn is based on a proposal of the High Council itself.
The judges are appointed for life, but come with 70 years in retirement.
The High Council consists of a President, seven Vice-Presidents and 30 ordinary and 15 extraordinary councilors ( raadsheren ).
Jurisdiction
Appeals against any decision of a lower court ( right bank) are to be given first to the High Court ( Gerechtshof ) and from there to the High Council.
The High Council is also responsible for the final instance, appeals against decisions of the appellate courts of Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
