Sushruta

Sushruta (also Susruta; सुश्रुत, Susruta ) or simply called The surgeon, was an Indian doctor.

Sushruta probably lived in the early 6th century BC. He described about 300 operations and 121 surgical instruments. Among the operations he has described, Star, breakage, stone carving, cesarean section, etc. are instruments which he is describing, inter alia, probes, forceps, lancets, and catheters. He also wore skin from other parts of the body to a damaged ear and developed the Rhinoplasty.

The book Susruta Samhita probably dates from around 350 AD and goes back to Susruta. It was translated into Arabic before the end of the 8th century. Into Latin, it was translated by Hassler and into German by Ullers.
