The Suur Munamägi (Eng. " Big Egg Mountain" ) in Haanja - ridge is 318 m above sea level, the highest point in Estonia and the Baltic States at the same time. The mountain is located in the region Võrumaa near the village Haanja in southeastern Estonia, near the borders with Latvia and Russia. The landscape in the area of the summit is gently undulating, embossing dense forests of conifers interspersed with meadows ( grassland management ). The ridge is composed of crystalline rocks. The fact that no water seeps in this rock, there are many small ponds and lakes in the immediate vicinity of the summit.

A first observation tower at the summit was built about 1816 by Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve as Triangulierungspunkt for triangulation of Livonia. 1939 mountain hut was built with a newly constructed 26-meter high observation tower at the summit. The tower was renovated in 1969 to a further storey was added (now the height of the observation deck above ground is 29 m) and equipped with a lift, which was no longer in operation since the fall of the Soviet Union by 2005 and dismantled. During this period the steps had to be used. Since 2005, the rise is again possible by a newly installed elevator. In the tower there is an exhibition about the nature of Võrumaa region is located. The summit itself is easily reached on foot, there is a walking path from a parking lot (marked with Suur Munamägi ) to the summit. The car park is also accessible by bus from Võru. The walk from there to the observation tower at the summit is about 20 minutes.
