Suure - Lähtru ( German wholesale Lechtigall ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Martna ( Martna vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.

Population and location

The village has 39 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is located 20 kilometers south-east of the district capital of Haapsalu. Through the village the river Rannamõisa ( Rannamõisa Jõgi ), which empties into the Bay of Matsalu flows.

Good Suure - Lähtru

At the beginning of the 16th century, the place was a prebend of the canons of Haapsalu. In the 17th century, the representative courtyard was built in the Baroque style. It was in 1624 verlehnt. From 1624 to 1835 the property was owned by the aristocratic Baltic German family Baranoff.

Today's mansion in the style of early classicism with baroque elements was built 1775-1778 by Karl Gustav von Baranoff ( 1713-1796 ). It was the wedding gift for his son Christoph Heinrich (1747-1818) and his wife Helene Juliane Charlotte von Engelhardt ( 1754-1820 ).

With the Soviet occupation of Estonia, the offices of the local state farms were housed in the buildings. Since 1995, the Court is back in private ownership. It belongs to the Estonian historian and politician Mart Helme (* 1949).

The estate today concerts and celebrations occur. The mansion also serves as a private museum which informs about the history of the place. The building is surrounded by a large park.
